An Overview of the IELTS Reading Module Preparation given in our classes held in Dubai:

Summary: An Overview of what the IELTS Reading Exam (Both GT and Academic) look like and what our IELTS Exam Preparation course will help you study for; The different skills tested as well as types of questions.
Body: The IELTS Reading module has 3 sections and in the test, you will be given articles or short texts to go through and you will have to answer a variety of questions accordingly. In the IELTS Preparation classes currently being held in Dubai, try and limit yourself to 1 hour as the actual test last 60 minutes in which you have to read all the passages as well as transfer them to your answer sheet.Weither the text is factual or authentic depends on you taking the Academic or General Training(GT) module.However,one thing remains the same; that is the skills that will be tested.Some of these are:

  • Reading for Gist
  • Reading for Main Ideas
  • Reading for Details
  • Understanding influences and implied meanings
  • Recognizing a writer’s opinion
  • Attitudes and Purposes

There are forty questions in total and each correct answer earns 1 mark which will then be converted to the IELTS 9-band scale, some of the main question types are:

  • Multiple Choice Questions
  • Identifying Information (True/False/Not Given)
  • Identifying Writer’s Views/Claims (Yes/No/Not Given)
  • Matching Information
  • Matching Headings
  • Matching Features

Academic Reading

In the IELTS Academic Reading test preparation, the reading material is taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. They are usually on academic topics aimed at the general public interest. Texts range from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical.

The texts may contain non-verbal materials such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations. If the text contains technical terms, then a simple glossary is provided.

General Training Reading

If you are going for the IELTS General Training Exam Preparation, then there will be 5-6 reading extracts. Two short factual texts on everyday life; two short extracts on work related issues and one larger, more complex one.
